This was a big attraction at the Stanley Hotel... And also at the Queen Mary on Dec. 2nd through the 5th, 2007.

Frank Sumption, the designer of the Ghost Box, sometimes known as 'Frank's Box', has done much pioneering work in the use of applying technology to capturing EVP messages. His method, which has been published in many places across the web, consists of using an AM radio circuit with an automated scanning system, which continually tunes the radio back and forth. Frank's theory is that the sound energy is captured and used by spirits to form words and phrases. The results have been astounding in some cases, but it takes time and patience to learn to use his device skillfully.

Frank Sumption does not sell his boxes to anyone. When he is moved to do so, he will construct a box and give it to a person, but he will not build them for public sale. I believe this device should be made available to anyone who desires one. This could be the next step in spirit communication, but without many persons using these devices, keeping notes and recordings, we will never know.

Read what Frank Sumption has posted regarding the MiniBox...

I listened to the 25 second sound clip, and it sounds comparable to mine, not as much noise though. It is tuning across radio, and is using radio stations as the raw audio source. The first word is 'sphinx' from the clip. I have had that image on my shower window all week(Sphinx or Hotep)! The next phrase is 'Doris doesn't like your boobs' (really, I don't have em') . I'd say the thing works, and it sounds good. If I had the money I would buy one. As far as for what I heard, it's been my expereince that it changes for the listener, so no doubt someone else will hear something entirely different. The point is, meaningful messages are formed out the raw audio, as this technology is intended to function. I would expect it to do like my version, work different for every user.

We arranged for Frank to have a private session with the MiniBox at the Stanley Hotel - here's what he had to say...

With The Mini Box available, I feel less compelled to try to put mine into production, so don't have to feel forced to spend every waking minute building stuff.   I don't care who makes the things, it's great to have the technology available to anyone that can afford it. The stress has been lifted--THANK YOU Ron Ricketts!

I have only two boxes at the moment, one is not meant for travel, as I have it set up with a seperate power supply, and sound chamber for testing... There is the box made by paranormalsystems.com, it works, and there is a sound sample on the site. I saw the Mini Box at the Stanley and was impressed.

Rosemary Ellen Guiley also had several sessions with the MiniBox. Here's what she said about it...

I was at The Stanley Hotel in Colorado last weekend, and was excited to get to work with the new Mini-Box built by Ron Ricketts. I was also happy to meet Frank for the first time!

I had several sessions with the Mini-Box with April and Allen Slaughter of the Association for the Study of Unexplained Phenomena, and found it quite impressive. Very compact, long battery life (and rechargeable) and good clarity. "Seven" came through for me in every session. We had a session with Mark Macy, and a short one with Frank -- wish it could have been longer. I'm getting one of the first of these boxes, and it will be a valuable addition to the two Frank's Boxes that I'm working with.

One of the most incredible tools for capturing EVPs is the 'Ghost Box', sometimes known as 'Frank's Box'. This device uses actual off-the-air information to generate and capture meaningful messages.

I was intrigued with the concept so after several months of study and research I developed a device which functions in the same manner as these other Ghost Boxes but uses special components and a simplified tuning method that can be mastered by anyone. This unit is auto-tuning so no special warm-up or calibration is required. Only three simple controls to use. In addition to output for a loudspeaker, it can also use headphones for private listening. Also, a tape recorder jack is provided so you can record directly, without using microphones. To simplify recording of sessions with the box, an external microphone input is included. When recording, one channel is exclusively for the questioner, the other is for the MiniBox output.

The MiniBox is small, battery-operated, and uses a powerful industrial quality sealed GelCel. It will operate 50 or more hours between charges. Compact, it can be carried in the hands while being used.

While this device uses the principles of the "Ghost Box", its design is unique and unlike any other similar devices that have been created. It is designed to be simple to use, robust in the field, reliable and very sensitive.

Features...

  • Wider Tuning Range - tunes over and under AM band

MiniBox with Crystal Enhancer

Crystal Enhanced MiniBox

Prototype example of enhanced MiniBox tuning assembly
Production version looks different than this.

A well-known ITC researcher requested a MiniBox modified to accept a pure quartz crystal because it is believed that crystals have the capability of capturing and focusing energy. As a test I built a MiniBox (shown above in prototype form) to test this theory. Reports from those who have used this box indicate that the enhancement increases the quality and sound of the responses.

I have since made changes to the prototype, and using a high-quality Asian quartz crystal, have integrated it into the tuning circuits of the MiniBox. Further, the crystal has electrical power supplied to it to polarize it while the MiniBox is turned on. The end result is a MiniBox that has clearer responses.

This feature is now an option for all new MiniBoxes. If this option is selected at time of order, the MiniBox will be constructed with the new crystal enhanced tuning assembly for $50.

For those who wish to have their MiniBox upgraded with a new enhanced tuning assembly, we can do it in our shop for $99 which includes the replacement tuning assembly, alignment and insured return postage. Out-of-USA customers, please email us for a quote which includes return shipping.
