Audio Upgrades

The standard MiniBoxes are designed for personal use and have audio power suitable for two or three persons seated in a quiet area. Output power is 350mw, similar to a typical portable radio. Many persons like to use their MiniBoxes in the field and need additional power for hearing in a noisy area. Likewise, many times the Box is used in a group setting and not everyone can hear clearly.

I now offer several upgrades to provide different levels of audio power. Some of these upgrades are mounted in an external box and connect to the speaker outlet on the MiniBox. Other upgrades can be mounted in the Box itself. Below we list the available upgrades and recommended usage.

Three Watt Upgrade - if you like to demonstrate your Box in front of groups or use it on field investigations where there is ambient wind and traffic noise then we suggest this upgrade. It will be ample for all but the most demanding situations.

This upgrade can be installed inside any current MiniBox; the Original, Plus, Classic and Ultra. This option yields almost nine times the audio power of the standard MiniBox. This modification is also easy on the battery, and will still allow about 20 hours of use on a single charge. For most users, this is the recommended upgrade, since it is contained within the MiniBox itself.

This modification can be added at time of manufacture or by shipping your existing Box to our workshop.

Seven Watt Upgrade - if you need lots of audio, and want everyone to hear clearly, then the MiniAmp Seven will give seven or more watts of clear, crisp audio. Moreover, it plugs directly into your existing MiniBox, regardless of model, and has its own internal battery, capable of about ten hours per charge at medium volume. If you want to be heard, even in the back of the room, then this is what you need. Heavy-duty battery, like is used in our MiniBoxes, powers this clear, crisp speaker, and uses the same battery charger as your MiniBox. An optional heavy-duty power supply will also allow usage from a wall socket. This unit is simple to operate - no controls except for an on-off switch!

This upgrade preserves the battery in your MiniBox, since it has its own power source. This allows great flexibility in the field, as the amplification may be used only when it is required.

Note that the MiniAmp Seven requires no modifications to your MiniBox and may be shipped directly to you, charged and ready to go.

The optional heavy-duty supply is compatible worldwide and is the same unit we provide with our MiniBox Ultra and Ultra Plus models
